Electrical spec div 16 for low voltage controls 1

what is the difference between CSI spec and Master Spec and spectext or are they all the same. Any information would be helpful,

I am not not concerned at this time which is the best. I just need the basic souce information and how I can ID the different so I can to comply with different client request and also spot what spec the client is using. And yes I will buy what I need for the application.

Also does the fire alarm spec use the same div number for these diffent spec and what div would low voltage controls for gate and doors be in and what div does intrustion alarms be in.

A short opinion: Been a long while I dealt with those. But had done enuff.

CSI is a format, that division numbering method and three parts of a section - Part 1 = genera; Part 2= products and Part 3 =excecution.

I beleive they publish a set of guidleline specs too. Spectext is just a customized word /software that help ediot the specs. I am not sure it is independelty sold. (may be it is)

MaseterSpecs used published by AIA. Now I think it is published by Acron (or similar name). It follows CSI format but has its own specs or text content. Mastespecs are also most widely accepted and popular in the USA. In my (previous) three different jobs (companies), after researching every time I had decided to go with Masterspecs.

As for the numbering goes, although it is good to follow general guidelines of CSI/Masterspecs, they are not gospels or laws. So feel free to create your own numbering, as long as they are clearly indexed in Table of Content of your spec book.

I would create a seperate secitons 16XXX for auxiliary systems or security system and spec low voltage systems such as door/gate controls. Depending upon complexity or simplicity of a task you can combine or separate out a spec section for a given scope of work.

I make reasonable effort to seprate out sections by separation of contractors but will not kill myself for that. Afterall all work specified is to be done and all bidders get all the documents. I require all bidders to refer to all bid specs and drawings.

The 2004 CSI format has gone to a six digit numbering system.
