This is relating to synchronous motors, M. voltage. What is a Steep Front Impulse test used to determine the condition of?

It is used to evaluate the transient voltage withstand capability of the stator insulation. This is particularly important for motors to be applied with variable speed drives due to their steep switching waveforms.
