I have an application that will be submerged in seawater and is made of EN24 T. Originally the part was not plated and during surface, it fell foul to corrosion, but worked.

We have made a new component (the material has had to stay the same), and have decided to have it Electroless Nickel Plated to give some corrosion resistance? Would this help? And is there another coating that can be applied without adding huge thickness to the product, especially on threads.

Many thanks

Nope, the EN will not help. Where there are cracks and holidays in the platting you will get accelerated localized corrosion.
Do you want a coating to reduce corrosion or to minimize fouling?

While the cracks and fissures are true of a hard chrome coatings my local electroless supplier swears they have processes that can prevent corrosion in seawater service. We looked into a solution for pitting on a 17-4 PH rod exposed to salt spray. Electroless nickel was brought up as a solution but wasn't viable due to cost.

Have not had stellar results with EN in wet salt water. What is the part and size?
