Electromagnetic coil 1

It has been a while that I am looking for buying a magnetic coil (approximate size 5" * 4" * 4&quot. It seems there is no manufacturer to produce this size magnetic coils. May be there is no demand for them in the market. I live in Canada, Toronto. Does anybody know any company in North America that sells Magnetic Coils in different sizes that I could buy from? Thank you

I want to use the specified magnetic coil to creat a magnetic field by applying 15-20V DC. I need to see or buy 2 to 3 different sizes and/or different shapes to see which one would serve my purpose. Shape and size is important for me. I have been to many electronic component stores, but none of them carry such a product.

You may consider making your own, depending on the application. They are fairly easy to make (crude). Otherwise, goto thomasregister.com and search for electromagnets. I am sure you will have a vendor. Thanks, Buzzp

Hi Rob40:

The magnetwire ( if the wire is thick relative to the
insulation as here so the later can be neglected) fills
out a fix percentage of the space.

So you can just wind one, try how much voltage it can
take without overheating and calculate the wire diameter
for the same current/ area at the required VTG.

You know that 2X thicker wire will have 1/4 as many turns

Dear Rob40: I am presently experimenting with electro-magnetic coils which I am winding myself. You can purchase magnet wire and do your own, if that interests you. I order 10 pound spools in several gauges which have between 2000 to 3000 feet of wire for around $50.00 USD.
If you want to wind your own, look in Thomases Register for magnet wire manufacturers or suppliers. Mine is located in Illinois, but I can't think of their name at the moment. I order it through a company at Stone Mountain, Georgia.
