electronic component assembly

I want to put some electronic device components (i.e. diode laser package, some wires, connectors, ...) together to make a whole device. Do you have any idea what kind of storage or package materials i can use to easily assemble them, by using, like screw, glue, anything... Anyway, i just want to do some labor work to put a messy testing system together. Any suggestions are appreciated.

You can use anything if it is truly a hack. Often I use blank PCBoard material or an unused PCB that's laying around. You use existing copper to tie down (solder)parts to 'ground'. You can use 5 minute epoxy to hold parts. I have made cable adapters out of jumper wire then potted the assembly in soda bottle caps with epoxy to protect them.

Hot melt glue is cheap (Dollar Store) and fun. If applied in just the right manner, it even peels off when required.

Also, if required, think about eye-safety with the laser diode. This might be as simple as leaving room for the appropriate warning decal. Or making sure that the position of the On/Off switch is perfectly clear. Or including a highly-visible LED Laser-Power-On indicator (especially with IR lasers).
