Electronic sensors for plumbing fixtures

Vandals have been stealing the electronic sensors used on plumbing fixtures in our public restrooms. What else can these type sensors be used for that makes them worth stealing?

Since they are proximity detectors, maybe the vandals are building themselves a burlar alarm system.

Mmmmmhhhhh!!! There are many possibilities...
1. Have you thought about the 2nd hand market?
Selling used detectors to people whose detectors have been stolen...(cough! cough!)... like yourself?
2. Not having a detector avoids flushing the sanitary?
Perhaps the perpetrators are 5 yr old!!! Mine never flushes the toilet!!!
3. A competitor move?
As your toilets get filled with... let's say human refuse, patrons avoid your business and go to your nearest competitor... countermove: get port-a-johns...naahhhh...not a good idea.

Please forgive the irony, just could not help myself from doing it...(thanks for the moment).

My #1 alternative is very serious, most crooks would steal stuff for reselling... apart from the pun about you re-purchasing the stuff stolen from you... stolen goos are almost always sold...those guys want ca$h.
What you should be looking for is:
who sells used detectors?
A good idea would be, perhaps, have serial numbers registered with the local cops or with an attorney.
Find the resellers and get a search warrant... if your stolen serial numbers are found... you know the rest of the story...

If your question is one of usage then: Those sensors are used in many industries in many ways. assembly lines, packing lines, counting applications, light switching...

And let me tell ya' once I found out that you could find these in any public potty our cost have sure dropped... (Just kidding) Seriously though they do havbe lots of uses since the range is really pretty decent compared to inductive type prox sensors and they cost much less (especially if stolen) than industrial photo-electric
