Electronic valve in/out + regulator question 2

Hi I am using one of these electronic valves - SMC SY113-SG-PM3-Q

(datasheet d/l)


On the valve are three ports labelled A P and R. I am having trouble understanding which ports are the in/out and what the third port is for. Can someone enlighten me?

On another related matter I would like to use this valve with a CO2 sparklet rated around 800 psi.

This valve is rated at 0.7MPa. Can anyone recommend a way of reducing the pressure to allow me to connect the two? I am assuming I need some sort of pressure regulator but my project is incredibly tight on space and I need it to be as small as possible.

What you need is right in your data sheet in the first series of figures, you could also try to search for solenoid valves, symbols.

And here is your 'crash course':

In your case P = pressure, A = to working connection, R = return.

To read a solenoid valve diagram: Small scuare with 'slash' = solenoid. Larger square nearest solenoid = situation (connection or flow between ports) when solenoid activated (current on). Largest square next (not connected to solenoid symbol): flow situation when solenoid disconnected.

2/2=Solenoid valve with 2 ports 2 working posisions,
3/2= solenoid valve with 3 ports 2 working positions,
etc
...
5/3 will often have one solenoid each end and accordingly a diagram with three large squares: one each for the solenoid avtivated situation each end, and the rest position flow when both solenoids off in the middle.

Arrow direction = flow direction (only this direction possible) from higer to lower pressure, eg. arrow in both directions: both pressure and flow directions allowed.

The diagram should follow or be printed on the valve, with ports numbered or given letters.

Regarding flow reduction and CO2: be sure your solenoid valve and sealings especially are compatible with CO2, and in temperature and concentration range given.

Try SMC, Norgren, ASCO or other large solenoid valve producers for suitable reduction.
