Electronics for Magnetic Field Generation

Hi,

I've been asked to develop the electronics for the following problem,
-Provide a constant current to a coil that will generate a magnetic field.
-Provide the ability to either stop or reverse the current in the coil - using a TTL or CMOS logic.

I been looking around and I'm considering using a Full Bridge Motor Control IC. The currents could be as much as 5 Amps.

I've never used motor control ICs before and was wondering if anyone had any sugggestions or opinions on whether this is the best way to proceed.

Your approach is correct. If the budget will allow it, you could consider using Apex Microtechnology power amplifiers.
