I would appreciate any information on the solutions and procedures for electropolishing 440C stainless. Owing to its high carbon content, the customary phosphoric-sulfuric acid solutions do not work for this alloy. The usual guidebooks (Metal Finishing, Products Finishing, ASM Handbooks, etc.) do not give specific info.
kenvlach@aol.com

Hello kenvlach:
How are you? About 12-13 years ago, I used a chemical polishing solution to remove burrs from thin, stainless steel parts. I don't know the type of stainless I was working with. The chemical was called Diversy (Diversey) and, unfortunately, I don't know if it is still available.

Have a great weekend,
steved

i went some info about electropolishing for stainless steel(300--400series)

There is a company near Jacksonville, Florida that electropolishes all types of stainless steel for medical and other uses. The name of the company escapes me at this time, but they use a metal passivization process for metal removel. You can specifiy a particular amount of metal removal or a degree of polish and luster. I used them for polishing a 13.8MO Stainless, which is a medium carbon content , medium nickle alloy.

I believe that I remember the name: GEM Electopolishing.
