I'm trying to understand how the ductile damage works and I built a simple notched sample, Steel 304, I added elastic and plastic properties and ductile damage values following one of the tutorial online. The sample is fixed on the left end and on the right end there is a velocity of 400 mm/s. Time on analysis is 0.1 sec, of course Dynamic Explicit. I also set Element Deletion YES in the mesh properties. Why I get these distortions? (see pic)

Do you have the STATUS variable requested for output and selected in Result —> Field Output —> Status Variable --> Use status variable ?

I did not. But I'm re-running the analysis and I requested this variable. What kid of info should I get form it?

EDIT: just check the manual, interesting. I'll let you know what's the answer

This variable is necessary to remove deleted elements from visualization. It can be also used to see which elements failed.
