Hello,
I have a question for people who have experience with designing, calculating and testing honeycomb panels/structures.
I want to know what are the steps in the Design process of a honeycomb sandwich panels structure.
I have a structure subjected to a gravity load.
I make an FEM model with some "rule of the thumb" chosen sandwich honeycomb panels.
1. How do i know what my FEM model shows me?
What scale do i use for the facings and for the core? Yield limit and Shear strength? If yes how do i treat/explain the local peak stress levels around the RBE3 elements? How do i tell if the thicknesses used for the facings and/or for the core could be smaller?
2. Should i prepare some test specimens and correlate them with FEM analysis to be able to correlate stress levels from FEM with real life behavior?
3. How can i know/output the forces each panel from my assembly is subjected to? Do i use elements Forces output? Can i use those forces to dimension each plate for buckling, crimping, wrinkling and so on? If not, how can get from FEM the loads each plate is subjected to so i can use those loads to correctly design the plates?
Thank you and i hope you can give some input on this. I need to make a design, analysis perhaps test procedures and i got stuck in the process.
