Im working on a project in Oakland, CA. The specs are

"Elevator Shafts to have a VESDA Smoke Detection system with Air Aspirating Smoke Sensor. Provide remote indicator LED (location per AHJ) with connection to fire alarm control panel. Contractor to confirm all wiring and location requirements with vendor and AHJ."

My question is in California are you allowed to run VESDA pipe for Smoke detection inside the elevator shaft

I guess they are doing VESDA in other parts of the building??

Is vesda listed for that type of area??

Seems like there would be false alarms??

Thinking the building code would not prohibit it.

You need to look at the data sheet for the VESDA pipe and tubing for compliance with the CBC and the California Mechanical Code. This is a state construction code issue. Maybe someone from California can answer this. Also, if this is a Hospital or a K-12 school, you would need to check with California OSHPD or the California Office of the State Architect, respectively.
