Elongation Due To Rolling

Dear All

They are telling me (in the workshop) that if they cut the plate length based on the mean radius, there will be some extra length after rolling. Is there a formula or a reference to estimate that?

I want to know how to calculate exact length of a plate before rolling to a specified diameter.
Does it depend on the material being rolled? (say Carbon steel or Stainless steel)
Does it depend on the thickness of the plate?
How about the rolling equipment or even the operator of that equipment(the technique)?

metengr, thank you for the reply. This reference simply says the mean radius to be used, however after rolling the plate will be longer than required due to stretching of plate.

It depends on material, plate thickness and rolling equipment. Once you have a flat template established, you will be able to optimize your process. Keep in mind this is not as precise with calculation because of variables I mentioned. You will need to run several rolling trials based on material and thickness to determine the correct size of the flat plate.
