embedding colortable into plt file

I am creating plt files for a project and emailing to the client who is then plotting them with the rest of the design teams drawings. The plots are barely visible. The reprographics guy thinks that the colortable needs to be embedded into the plt files. I don't see anything about the subject in the autocad user guide(2005.

I am not sure what you mean exactly by "colortable".

In the plotting dialog box there is a selection for .ctb or .stb. The ctb is a plotting colortable. I am using the project ctb and my plots are not plotting out the same at the reprographics company as the other disciplines. The architectural cad guy thinks that the colortable/plot style table needs to be embedded in the plt files and of coarse I can't get a hold of him now.

I'm not sure if this helps, but my company has different styles of drawing in our different offices throughout Europe. When I have to email a drawing to another office, I always makes sure I email the .ctb file together with the .dwg file. That way the receiving office can save it in the correct directory (to find this, in AutoCAD, >tools,>options,>file locations) and then they can print the drawings to the same line shade & thickness as we do.

I would not think that would help. The plt file is the ripped hpgl file already. All parameters of the print have been defined using your ctb or stb settings. I am not as familiar with reprographic work but it would seem that you would need to create a plt file with altered ctb settings to get the output of the plt file that you would want.

Either send the ctb file, or just send them a dwf file & call it done.

Thanks for the imput. It seems that the plt file is limited to the plotter that is doing the actual plotting. The project requires plt files (fed gov)and the repro co has the project ctb, but we have a hp800 and the repro co does not have that driver. They use a hp750, so I had to set-up a dummy plot to file printer on my system with the hp750 driver. Does the job, but looks a little 'less crisp' than the hp800.
