Embedding grounding wire through concrete

I was asked to research the following:

Is it ok to embed a grounding wire through concrete without some separation between the 2 materials? Will the concrete get damaged?

I have my own barely educated opinion about this, but I need someone with thorough knowledge of the subject to let me know for sure.

It's not only OK, it's often a code requirement.

Reinforced concrete and bare copper get along nicely together for the most part. There can possibly be some issues related to lightning strikes, but nothing is perfect, I guess.

Google "ufer ground" to learn more.

Just to toss in my experience, an ufer ground can often save the day when driven rods can't quite get the resistance low enough...
