Hi everybody, i'm new here. But I need some help. How do I insert an AuotCAD drawing into an EXCEL sheet without the black background? I also still want to be able to use the cells around it. I have seen it before, and the drawing can later be stretched to fit the sheet without affecting the cells.

Hi, DDAG!

Your problem is easy to solve: Before inserting the drawing, change the background of the drawing to white, save and insert to Excel. If yo want to continue working on the drawing in ACAD, change it back to black. The white background in Excel remains, until you reopen it (double clicking on it) in ACAD.

I usually insert HPGL or CGM files. These won't update automatically but they also won't bloat your files and bog down your computer like object linking and imbedding. There is no problem with the black background with either of these file formats and they are both vector data so they resize nicely without losing resolution. Overall I have better results with CGM and you don't need to install the special HPGL filter.

Thanks for the info gearguru. But I'm still lost. I now have a backgroung of white and I can't use the cells around the drawing. Any other ideas?

Do you not want ANY background? If not enter "wmfbkgnd" and then change value to off. Next zoom in on the objects you want to capture, then minimize the ACAD window to where it is barely around your object. Stretch the window as needed. Next use "wmfout". Now in Excel, insert the picture. You will be able to see through the image, and pick the cells surrounding it since you didn't capture the whole screen, just your object.
