Hi,
Can anybody tell me how to create an embossed letter/number on a surface in UG 17.
Is that possible?

You need to create your text as a geometry and then extrude it. UG Fonts are not geometry. There is a GRIP program that will convert UG text to geometry in the GRIPLIB.

hi goodluck,

step1:you need to write first text in dwg file using annotation editor.then you export that dwg file as cgm keeping polylines option on in the cgm export dialog box.
step2:you import that cgm file into you model file.the text will come as a polylines.you can then either move it or project it on your surface.this way you can use this text for creating machining path.you can even extude this text to have an embossed shape.

i believe this will certainly help you.

Hi,
It's very simple to do with Pro/DESKTOP Express (free version). After that, you can export to IGES/STEP for any CAD system.

Looking at Manish Shah's suggestion above has certainly worked for us also, i.e. using CGM.
my only additions would be to keep an eye on the Font being used, we have always used 'POSTER' font to allow a fully enclosed profile when importing the CGM back into the Model.
Also the CGM will come back into the Model on the X-Y Plane so make sure that the WCS is orientated on the face required.

we also have some UDFs for adding lettering. configured to reduce stress raises after machining.
