How long does it take to conduct Embrittlement test as per ASTM F 606.

What happens in this test? what is determined? Is it an objective test for SS coated fasteners (To check the effectiveness of coating), what are the acceptance criteria?

Is it some thing like Salt Spray test on coated CS items or is it like IGC test or is it like SSCC or is it some simple test like Tensile or hardness?

Customer Spec calls for Embrittlement test to be performed on High Alloy Fasteners that are externally coated. Since i do not have the standard to look up, i am unable to find out whether it has some huge time component( IGC Pr B that runs for weeks or Salt Spray test (3000Hrs) or SSCC test that runs to 720 Hrs) involved as we want to procure these fasteners duly coated in couple of weeks.

The duration of the embrittlement test is approximately 48 hours. The fastener is tensioned to 75% of the minimum ultimate tensile strength and remains this way for 48 hours. After this period the fastener is visually inspected. I recommend you obtain ASTM F 606 if you intend to specify, purchase, and use mechanical fasteners. The cost is quite reasonable.
