emission sampling ports on stacks of boilers, furnaces and heaters 1

Dear All,

In one of the job I have to install emission sampling ports on stacks of boilers, furnaces and heaters . I have attached the standard clause with this thread.

First of all I need to understand where the sampling ports should be located. Is it 8 Diameters from the Top of the stack or is it 8 diameters from the bottom?

Secondly how can i determine if the flow inside a stack is cyclonic or not?

It should be located a minimum of 8 Diameters downstream from anything that will produce a flow disturbance. If you enter the stack at the base through a 90 degree fitting, it will be 8 pipe diameters above the point where the 90 degree fitting enters the stack.

You can do an EPA test to determine if the flow is cyclonic:
