Empty Part 3

Dear All,
If i am trying to create a empty part in the assembly mode, it created automatically in 0,0,0 Position. If Any way to create a empty part in other than Zero Position(I want to locate the empty part position)Kindly let me know. I hope you understand my problem.

Once you create the empty part at zero,zero

You will have to physically move the part and or instance (carefull with this because if you move the instance the part will be at zero, zero) after you create the part. Sorry no way of creating a part other than at zero,zero That I know of.

Thinking more today

You can Copy an Instance and then place that instance in your assembly. Then make that instance you just copied an unique part this way you can keep the drawing with it if you want (This is in i-Deas 12 I think) and then delete all the features out of that part and then you start with an empty part. I hope this sorta makes sense.

You could possibly do this 2 different ways.

One way would be to create a new part in Master Modeler, with the first coord at 0,0,0, then have a specific x,y,z coord point in space and translate a new coord system to that x,y,x (rmb key-in).

Second way, create a new part at 0,0,0 and turn the coord a differnet color and add that part (instance) to your assembly and move it accordingly, like Sdeters said...

BUT, keep in mind, if your part (instance is MOVED in 3D space (In Master Modeler) and NOT in an assembly, if the part your mating to moves or changes location and you need to move your part, any details tied to it will be lost and need to be recreated.

Personally, I would rather use the new part, add to an assembly and model it in the Master Assembly and then tieing the 2D to the 0,0,0 part... But again, if your doing interior/extrerior trim and those parts won't move... modeling in that space is fine, IMO..
