Just looking thru the NDT requirements for an EN 14015 tank. With reference to table 29; it states that all floor plate fillet welds should be subject to dye penetrant inspection in addition to either MT or Vac box.

What are peoples experiences with this? Have I interpreted this correctly, I'm not aware of anyone performing 100% PT on tank floor fillet welds????

Many Thanks

Lurmy

What version of the code are you looking at? The 2004 edition table 29 does indeed mandate Dye Pen for all bottom welds, then Mt or VB. This is more stringent than API 650 and frankly I'm not sure how you can PT a bottom fillet weld without getting to the backside of the plate, which is not easy. I'm not sure what field experience is and am looking forward to seeing more responses.

@ IFRs
Dye penetrant test is on one side of the plate (not getting to the backside of the plate).

Not to be confused with the penetrating oil test used on corner welds.
