This thread is inquiring about the background information related to 9.2.2(3) of EN 1993-3-2.

My understanding is that this means if a chimney/stack is taller than 16 meters and the critical wind speed for vortex shedding is greater than 20 m/s then vortex shedding does not need to be checked. However, I am yet to find commentary or source material to back-up the reasoning/research for this entry. Logically, my interpretation is that this is due to the fact that higher wind speeds will be more turbulent such that the alternating vortices that generate the crosswind motion will not be possible to form.
Does anyone know exactly where this entry came from?
