Hi everyone,

I have a question relating to EN ISO 15848.

My question is: If I were purchasing valves that meet class B of the above standard, would each individual valve be tested or would the valve design be approved to the standard?

Any halp is appreciated.

Thanks,

stiffler

Hi Stiffler,

Simple answer is valve design (represented by its tested prototype) pass the standard, however do not waive the each individual production testing.
Compliance with ISO 15848-1 and/or -2 means two things in general:
- the valve prototype indeed pass the test as per ISO 15848 procedure (ISO 15848-2)
- the valve tester' (usually manufacturer) testing facility and procedure are in accordance with ISO 15848-1.

Since the discussion is about Fugitive Emission, there are other factor as well that are not cover/guaranteed in this standard e.g. Gland packing consistency quality, workmanship/surface roughness of spindle, etc.
However indeed some end user try to complement this ISO by adding some internal standard / Best practices such as future production test may only be represented by 10% of total valve per same batch. Assuming the quality of gland and workmanship for the same batch have the same quality. And also no design change whatsoever in regards with the tested prototype.

Regards,
MR

All valves will last for years, except the ones that were poorly manufactured; are still wrongly operated and or were wrongly selected
