I want to make a small guard for a trailer attachment that might experience artic temperatures -40 degs C. Will EN14 150M19 bar be OK for this or could it suffer brittle fracture.
What would be an easily obtainable British alternative.
Thanks in advance.

150M19 is reasonable as long as the P and S content are not at the high end of the specification. Levels below 0.015 for both will provide better fracture toughness. I would make sure that it possesses a fine grain size (ASTM number 6 or better) and has minimal inclusions. Cold Heading Quality is a general term for steels that meet all of these requirements.
