EN40B steel anybody? need properties

Good day,

As the title states, one of my manufacturers says they have EN40B steel available for casting. I am trying to validate my design in solidworks / cosmos, but need material properties to import into the material database. I have searched like crazy to try and find any info or similar materials. I know it is a nitriding steel and the approximate material composition but cannot find any properties.

Any suggestions on where to look? Anybody know anything about the material?

Don't know where to look in the U.S., but all my British racing crankshafts are EN-40B if that points you in a place to look.

I guess you tried Matweb.

I guess you tried various tool steel suppliers.

Ya that is the same thing that I thought at first, but nearly all of those hits are people selling crankshafts or other parts. The other ones mostly have the composition of the material, but very few have strength properties. Anyway thanks for the help.

EN 40B is an old classification which was renamed as 722 M24 according to British Standard (BS) 970. It must have happened donkeys years ago because it was changed not long after I finished my apprenticeship (1975)
