Hi,

To refer;
Emergency Diesel Engine Generator Package
1500kWe.

Can anyone tell me how to calculate the starting of 185kW motor at 1100kW base load?

And;

What data and formula do I need to calculate the engine capability for the frequency drop for the above loading?

Thank You.

If this is a droop governor set at 3%, then your frequency will be nominal frequency minus (actual load / rated load x droop {3%})
Rated load = 1500kW
Base load = 1100kW
Motor load = 185kW
Total load = 1285kW
Actual frequency under load = 103% - (1285kw/1500kW x .03)= 100.43%
On a 50 Hz base, 50 x 100.43 = 50.215 Hz.
On a 60 Hz base, 50 x 100.43 = 60.258 Hz.
NOTE Engine speed under load is a function of the governor, not the engine. If the governor is running in autogenous mode, the frequency will drop below rated frequency when a load is applied and then correct back to rated frequency.

Isn't this the same question you asked in thread237-218709?

Bear in mind that a motor under starting conditions requires a lot of reactive power which is demanding on the AVR. AVRs vary enormously in performance. The behaviour under transient conditions will depend on the interaction between the AVR, the governor, and the load being driven. The dynamic response of the system isn't easy to predict without knowing the characteristics of the machine. David gave good advice in the other thread - is there a reason why you can't follow it? Bill: two answers to the same question? You have a lot of patience!
