Engineer with foreign degree 1

An individual who has an engineering degree and experience outside USA. He does not have an EIT certificate.

Can this structural engineer be employed to work in Florida under the supervision of a registered Florida PE?

Yes, I believe that anyone can be hired under a PE, as long as they don't portray themselves as an engineer to the public. Also, their experience under the PE may or may not apply towards getting licensed. An early call into the state engineering board can supply answers to this.

Many foreign educated engineers are registered in Texas and most other states.

In Florida, foreign degreed engineers must apply to the state board and meet all requirements. They also must have their undergraduate degreed evaluated to ensure that the yare equivalence to ABET accredited BS degree in engineering.

There are certain requirements as to how many science and math credit hours the foreign degree engineer taken.

WE have one lady engineer in our office who had a degree from China and got a MSE from Colorado State University and Florid turned her down. She was lacking some science courses. She had to go to college to take these courses.

I have seen videotapes of the state board meetings, to get my continuing education hours in rules and laws, and I must say that many of the applicants are turned down.

I agree with the board because this is done for ht public safety and ensure plane level field for all. Keep in mind it is our number one job to protect the public.

Foreign experience should only count only when the applicant used American codes and standards. I think this is a must before he is entrusted in performing designs that will impact the safety of the public.
