I am starting new engineering consulting firm
I like to know, what will be the best way to estimate the Engineering Design Fee for Mechanical systems in a Retail Store Renovation (Heating System, Cooling System, Plumbing, Fire Protection)??

I hear of the 10%, 6% of the total Mechanical Labor & Materials cost or $$/Sqft..or other ways?

$1 less than the next highest!

We price of $/drawing, % of cost, and costs for any extras. Depends on the project, and how keen you are on getting the job.

Most important is to make sure you and the client agree on the scope on what is and is not included. Not only can does it reduce risk, it give you a chance to talk to and discuss things with the client, and in the end relationships can win more work than fees.

Mech services:
renovations 8-9%, new buildings 6%. Roughly!!! How badly do you need the job I guess!

For a simple retail TI, make sure to include fixed miscellaneous as a line item including survey, gas, and printing charges. depending on where you are geographically, a probable rule of thumb for writing a proposal just starting out would be $100-110/hour until you gain more experience and build a reputation with the architect. If the job is really small (no new HVAC Equip, Plumbing, Fire), make sure to set yourself a minimum (say, $1000/job minimum fee)
