Has anyone engraved text on the circumference of a cylinder? From reading the help I see how I can engrave along a curve but this appears to be limited to a flat surface.

Any help would be appreciated.

PS - Using a decal in photoworks will not help as I am sending this model for FEA analysis and I need to see if the engravings will contribute to higher stresses and possible failure.

a. The key to creating this type of feature is to use
"Offset From Surface" extrude type and use the surface of
the cylinder to offset from. (Might have to check "Reverve
Offset" depending on where your text is).

b. If there're more than one surface on the cylinder, you
will have to create an offset surface at zero distance and
use this new surface to offset from. (only one continuos
surface can be used for Offset From Surface type). Hide the
offseted surface when finished.

Hope this tip will help...

How do I add the text to the cylinder?
Everything that I have seen adds text to a plane.

I made a logo on a curved surface once. It was cut into the part. It was a real pain to get the right look, but the part is being produce today. You can see an example of what I did at my site.
