EPDM Gasket material for flange connections

I have recently learned that EPDM gasket and O-ring material is preferred for potable water containing chloramines. The Buna-N gasket material will somewhat deteriorate over time with chloramines. Is the EPDM considered standard for this application? Is there any down side for using this EPDM?

Buna-N gasket is fragile to oxidant, I think.
EPDM is somewhat a standard for various applications because it is cheap and commonplace and good mech/chemical property.
