Hello there,

I am working on a cost estimation project which requires me to find out unit cost of an extruder, like Alpine 3 layer extrusion die...Could you suggest me where I can find the prices...I also want to know the prices for the raw materials like resin: Polypropylene, High Density Polyethylene...

I appreciate your help,

Suggest contacting an extruder manufacturer and obtain a budgetary quotation.

My response may not be of much assistance but it will raise questions you need to consider. The scope of your problem is sketchy. What are you trying to do? Are you interested in forming 3 layer film for form and seal applications. What resins are you actually going to use in this project?
Resin prices can likely be found in the chemical marketing reporter.
A well defined scope is necessary to prepare any capital estimate. Sometimes detail engineering is needed to improve the accuracy of the estimate. If you are interested in three layer film production, then
1) you have three extruders to estimate (75/120/75 or 50/75/50)and gravimetric resin feeding systems, external and internal cooling systems, die heads, screen changers, nip roll units, and film winders.
2) installation will have to include site prep, foundations, steel work, piping, electrical, and all ancillary systems and controls.
You need to get a process flow diagram for the complete process and a well defined scope of purchased equipment and installation activities.
The extruder you mention is from Hosokawa Alpine.

Thanks Bill,

Your information is definitely helpful. The process is co-extrusion of Polypropylene/Polyethylene/Polypropylene for a trilayer battery seperator used in rechargeable Li-batteries.

The resins are isotactic Polypropylene and Highdensity polypropylene.

Can you give me some startup information on the cost estimation of site prep, foundations, steel work, piping, electrical and anxillary systems and controls...I appreciate if you can direct me to useful resources...
