I have an Ellipsoidal Head with a nozzle in its centre. The nozzle has a Reinforcing Pad with a fillet weld around its outside diameter.
The "effective alternating equivalent" stress at the root of this outer fillet weld is needed (in accordance with Step 3 of 5.5.3.2 of ASME VIII Div 2.), so that it can be assessed for fatigue.
Shall this stress be calculated using the "Effective Notch Stress Method" shown on Slide 10 of the following link? Is this method compatible with ASME VIII Div 2?
As the stress taken from the FEA does not include the notch effect, Step 4(a) of 5.5.3.2 of ASME VIII Div 2 would then require that Kf = 4.0 for the root of the weld (from Table 5.11).
The shell and head thickness are both 22mm thick. Material: SA-516 Gr70.
Any advise or references would be much appreciated.
