NX 3.0.3.2.

While attempting 'top down' assembly of a drill jig comprising 6 simple blocks with many mating holes, I had a problem when I tried to 'Create New Component' with one the parts; error message 'Storage Manager operation attempted on free block'
I know why it failed, the holes in this part were put in from User Defined Features (UGII\udf\resource) and if I delete these features the part will create new component.
Note. This is a one-off, so I don't want to go down the 'Wave Linker' road.
Any ideas?

A couple of options you could try.
Remove the holes, create the part then add the holes back in. Sounds like you've got a lot of holes so this may be too much work.
Or
Save as your scheme file to the new component name, delete all of the geometry that doesn't need to be in the component, then add it back into your scheme as a component.
This is basically what UG tries to do in the create new component routine and by manually doing this it may give you more of an insight into why the operation is failing and help you avoid it in the future.

I've found breaking down what UG is trying to do in an operation like this and doing it manually step by step a very good way of understanding what I'm asking it to do. A great learning tool, as once you've done this your appretiation for complex features is much better and can lead you to a more robust modelling technique.

Hope that helps.
