Hello,

I'm trying to open some Catia parts files (V5) but don't know which revision, and I get the following errors.
"OSM_V004 : Can not open file: file have been written in a an unsupported version; and OSM_V001.

I'm using Catia V5 R15.
I tried to open it with V5 R14, but no luck.

thanks.

Open the Catia file in a plain text reader. Amongst the jibberish, you will find some readable headers, which include such things as version and service pack info.

Once you have that, you know what to do...

V5_CFV2 ù 8 +. ,

This is the first line, i'm assuming this means V5 and Rev 8...

What if I don't have access to rev8? is there a way to open this file?

thanks...

No, it doesn't mean that. The header info is in plain english. Look further. It should look more like this:

V5_CFV2 t~ /(ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ _
   CATSummaryInformation LastSaveVersion ~ <Version>5/<Version><Release>14/<Release><ServicePack>6/<ServicePack><BuildDate>04-22-2005.22.00/<BuildDate><HotFix>0/<HotFix> MinimalVersionToRead
CATIAV5R14
CATBuildLevel

This was taken directly from a file. Assuming that this is native data, and not a translation from some other package, you should find all you need right at the top.

And if you need to open the file, it should open directly, if it is a lesser version. The only time you run into problems opening Catia files, is when you try to say, open an R16 file, in R15. (upward compatible only)

If you have a newer file to open in an older version, you'll have to open it in its proper format, and use the "downward compatibility" utility to convert it. When you do that, you lose all history, though.
