I have recently been trying to use the MSC Nastran/Patran on my PC and have encountered the error
"ERROR... Unable to determine file system info; 0 -1"

Any ideas what it means ?

what OS and what file system are you using (ntfs, fat, fat32)?

one possible problem is that it's trying to use long directory names not supported in fat32, or make really big DBALL files which are over 4 GB, and fat32 doesn't support it.
I recomment using NTFS.

windows has automatic conversion to ntfs, I just don't remember how.

Before doing all that, does the problem appear when you run patran or when you run nastran? and when exactly when you run them.

In case it's patran, I recomment checking the properties of the link (shortcut) you are using to run it, and the working directory specified in the shortcut.

Thanks for the responses - sorry I havent returned your comments - I have been distracted onto other things for a while. Anyhow, I will be trying to get this working again this week and any help would be greatly appreciated.
