Hello,

I am trying to make a model where I apply a surface heat flux load to a disk. For this, I need to define a surface, which I to do. The load is defined properly, as shown by the green arrows in the attached photo. However, when I run the job, I get the same error for all the elements in the set concerned:

LOAD TYPE S IS NOT VALID FOR ELEMENT TYPE C3D8R

Can someone please explain why?

C3D8R elements are stress-displacement elements without temperature degree of freedom. To apply heat flux you need heat transfer or coupled temperature-displacement elements.

So how do I select the nature of the elements? I am using Abaqus/Explicit, just in case.

You can change the type of elements in the Mesh module using Assign Element Type. In case of explicit thermal stress analysis you should select Coupled Temperature-Displacement as family and Explicit as element library. Default type is C3D8T.

Thank you, it worked perfectly!
