We are currently designing an ESP system for a 400 MW forced draft boiler and a 200 MW balanced draft boiler, both oil-fired.

NFPA 850 requires a fire detection system consisting of temperature sensors at the inlet and outlet ducts that alarm to the control room. The operator is then required to take emergency actions to secure the unit.

I am trying to determine what other sites have installed concerning fire protection/detection.

Due to the high unburned carbon content in oil flyash, maintaining low excess air is key to preventing fires in the ESP. Could we install an O2 analyzer at the inlet duct to help us prevent fires instead of just using the temperature sensors to detect them?
