Dear All,

I have 2 materials. One with normalized and other Normalized and tempered.

I have qualified a PQR -1 as per ASME SEC IX with impact requirements as per ASME B31.3 with base material normalized .

My job is having impact requirementsas per ASME B31.3 with normalized and tempered base material.

All the variables remains similar except heat treatment.

Can i use the PQR-1 for writing WPS to weld normalized and tempered base material?

kknnkk,

As far as I know, heat treatment on base metal will not change the Base material P number and Group number. Therefore, the same WPS can be used since all essential and supplementary essential variables remain the same. Base material heat treatment is not a part of WPS. Therefore, there is no need to change the WPS.

You don't say what process you're using, and there are differences in base metal variables based on that. Regardless, I don't see that the base metal heat treatment is an essential or supplemental variable.

You won't find it in Sec IX. It will be in the construction code, much like UG-84(h)(2). Not sure of the requirements of B31.3.

Can you list the materials - may be easier to assist.
