Greetings Gentlemen:
I hope you can point me in the right direction. I am trying to estimate the residual stress in a weld. I have a machine with a central column which is a 9 C 20.0 channel welded to a 1/2 in X 18 in SQ base plate. The base plate is welded to the end of the channel all around the cross section of the channel. The welding process warps the
base plate by approx .12 in. The base plate/column is then bolted to a much stiffer plate effectively straightening
out the column base plate. I am trying to estimate the "straightening" stress in the weld. Modeling as a beam yields an unrealistic result. Roark does not have a similar flat plate case to apply. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance....
