Hello,
Does anybody know how to estimate the shaft torque required for a stuffing box, using self lubricated graphite packing?

Hello Efendy!
Thanks for the very precise reply!.. In my application the stuffing box is on a vertical shaft and sealing against an argon gas environment which is very near to atmospheric pressure..I understand that stuffing box pressure is nearly equal to the process pressure, but is there any recommended minimum stuffing box pressure?
Abhishek

keeping the stuffing box pressure slightly above the argon gas pressure is usually sufficient (a minimal differential pressure (for example, 1–2 psi above process pressure) is often sufficient.). Specific pressure recommendations may vary by equipment type, so consulting the equipment manufacturer or seal supplier for your specific application is also advisable.

What is the design of the packing gland ?
Is it adjustable ?

I've seen adjustable packings tightened to the point the shaft wouldn't move, or the packing grabbed the shaft and spun, or smoke was billowing from the seal .
