I asked ETAP support this question already, but they informed me that my employer has allowed the support agreement to expire and thus won't help me. So, I thought I would ask here before spending $2k on the support for 6 months.

I am trying to do a coordination study in ETAP. There is an option to fault a bus(es) in 'Star' and update the fields in the 'TCC kA' tab for protective devices. When I click the 'Run/Update Short-Circuit kA' button in Star, the fault current is shown on the one-line as it should (correct value for the bus that is faulted). When I check the TCC kA tab for the protective devices upstream of the fault, the value shown is not for the bus I faulted. The value shown is for another bus and it won't change at all. The arrow on the TCC which shows the fault level is always the same too. Although, I can change the arrow by setting a user defined value instead of using a calculated TCC kA. I could do what I need by entering user defined values for everything, but this will take a long time, more time than I have. Do any of you have any experience with the TCC kA values not updating when you run a short circuit calculation in Star view in ETAP?

When you run the kA update utility it populates the TCC clipping current field with the maximum fault current that device is subjected to, even if you are not developing a TCC for that worse case fault. This is one of the features I don't like about ETAP.

I eventually had come to that conclusion. Thanks for verifying that.
