how to calculate heat transfer from outside(outer temperature) to the inside(ethylene, liquid, -103 celsius) of tank?
tank is double(inner and outer tank with nitrogen under pressure between)) cilyndrical ,vertical
it means outside air, material 1,film of nitrogen under pressure, material 2 with insulation, and final ethylene
-on the bottom of tank is layer of concrete.
should i calculate for area of heat transfer just area of tank to the level of ethylene in tank?
appreciate any constructive ideas for solving this
tnx in advance

The fluid and temperature is a little out of normal range. I handle these cases from first principles. The ASHRAE Design Manual, or most heat transfer texts will give you some basic data and the method of estimating heat transfer through composite layers.

You should be able to find heat transfer coefficients for much of what you need. You may have to guess others based on similar materials. If you need something better than that you may need to go for lab tests.

You have two different heat gain paths. We normally calculate both, and add them together on an area basis to get a total heat gain estimate.

You also have a third path - through the concrete. You can follow a similar logic here if you like.

tnx for answer
this ASHRAE Design Manual is some book?any online version of this?i'm looking but i couldn't find it
i'm interested in this -if i have film of nitrogen or air between 2 materials ,is it relevant how thick this film is or it doesn't matters?,am i using same coeficient of convection for material 1 to nitrogen and nitrogen to material2?
if i calculate area through wich heat transfer what area should i calculate -from outer tank, from inner tank,or take mean measure of area between those two?
tnx
