EU to USA Standards Conversion?

My UK based company manufactures electrical equipment for the offshore oil and gas industry. When selling in Europe we have a CE mark and compliance with ATEX, Electrical Saftery and EMC directives.

Does anyone know what standards I need to sell in the US market? Can I easily convert my standards to US or will I need to go through the extensive approvals process in the US too? I've seen reference to an agreement which seems to imply easy conversion to the other standards to simplify export, but I can't find further details. Can anyone help?

There are no requirements from a safety aspect of the product. There are requirements for EMC. The safety end is handled by UL or an equivalent. The EMC end is handled by the FCC (not all products need FCC approval). The FCC is the only one that is required. UL is voluntary but the market almost demands this mark. Contact UL at UL.com and about 4-5 years ago they were working on an analysis for comparison of UL standards vs. CE standards to allow a less painful cross marking. Not sure where this is at now.
More info is needed to determine a UL standard that may apply to your product. Or simply ask them. Their website has lots of info too. Good luck.
