I have a 1000kVA ITE Askeral filled 2400V - 480 Delta-delta transformer still in service at an industrial plant in an indoor location. The unit was manufactured in 1964.

There was a PF test performed in 2008 showing %DF @20c for H -l&G of 1.36, Watts 1.38, and capacitance of 6700 uf. This reading was 3 times higher than the other reading in the same test.

The oil test for Furan 2FAL level was stable at 19 in the 2004, 06, 07, and 08 tests. Dielectric and moisture results are within limits.

My questions are: Are the test results of the last and only PF test preform in 2008 good justification to replace the transformer and are there more reliable tests to determine how close this transformer is to the end of life?

Thanks you all in advance.

Regardless of the test results, isn't a 50+ years transformer with a (possibly) poisonous oil ready to go?

And, even if you don't care about environmental aspects, the idling losses alone are a reason to get something better.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.
