Does anybody have an example of a configurable fastener that you created that you'd be willing to share with me? I'm thinking along the lines of a machine screw with a configurable length. I'm aware of Toolbox and its functionality, but I'm considering making some of my own. I will probably make a model for each screw size and type (10-24 Truss Philips) with different lengths and different part numbers/descriptions for each length. I'm fairly new to SW, and I think I know what to do, but if I could dissect a sample file it would help me to understand what to do. Thanks!

I have one that can be a start. You would have to change the head type.

Brian,
If I was starting over what I would do is create one 4-40 screw using toolbox. Then copy and change the length and save that to our vault. Then I would move up to the 6-32 and do the same. If I had lots of time I would change a copy of the 4-40 to make a 6-32.
The reason I would do this is so that when I replace any screw with another the mates would automatically be replaced correctly without changing. Give it a test, replace anyone of your screws with a different one and see what happens.
Remember you would have to change the name in properties for each new copy.

Here's one I just made as an example:

Take a look at it & let me know if I'm on the right track. It seems to work well & does what I want.

Bradley--are you saying that if I replaced this with another screw, I could lose my mates?

Also, this part file is over 2MB in size... I assume that's because of all of the configurations. Is that a potential issue?

Thanks to all for the help...

Brian,
Not if you are using configurations. Our admin at the time would not let us use configuration. They should replace each other just fine.
