Hi all, I'm looking to buy a good book for design/selection/performance for Temporary/Permanent excavation support and shoring. I have general familiarity with the topic but appears I may be doing some detailed design work soon. Nothing specific yet but I am looking for a good reference that will cover the range of systems.

Thanks!

Not a book but have you seen the CalTrans Excavation Manual? Also while not specifically a book on the subject, Tomlinson in his 6th edition has very good section on walls/supports and movements.

The CalTrans Excavation Manual is a good reference, thanks

Wait for the soon-to-come 3rd Edition of Robert T. Ratay's Handbook of Temporary Structures in Construction. It is being worked on now. The 1st and 2nd Editions are good. The 3rd Edition will be up to date. Alan Macnab's Earth Retention Systems Handbook is also good.

I would also suggest FHWA's Lateral Support Systems and Underpinning as a good companion to those already mentioned.
