We have a drawing file with hundreds of of individual text items. These same text values are in one column of an Excel spreadsheet. Next to that column is another column of text that we would like appended to the Autocad text item. Would there be an automated method of editing the Autocad text by adding the text in the adjacent Excel column?

Using VBA you can access the text items and append the data from Excel. You could write the program in Excel VBA, include the AutoCAD object library and you're on your way. It shouldn't be that complex, but will take a little time to write.

The other thing yopu can do is to copy and paste teh list from Excel into AutoCAD.

When you paste it, it can be either as AutoCAD Entities or keep as an Excel Spreadsheet. If you keep is a spreadsheet it will ask for a an equivelent text height. Once it is in your drawing you can update it at anytime bt doubel clicking on it. This works especially well for BOMs.

Hi,

There is a program that I use called CADminer which can do this. Basically, it's a CAD information-mining tool and has a relational database where you can link/import info. from a spreadsheet and annotate your drawing near the selected entities. Better, it can do this automatically and dynamically - i.e., constant changes to the drawing as the external file changes. You can download a free trial from Hope that helps.
