Excess Pore Water Calculation from CPT soundings

I am trying to use the Kajima Technical Research Institute, KTRI (Takesue, et al. 1998) method for pile design. In order to calculate the pile side friction you must know the delta u (excess pore water pressure). I believe that a pore water dissipation test can be performed in a clay to find this value, but what about in sands or mixed soil types? I am in Charleston. I have attached a paper that might be helpful.

I already use the LCPC method but would like to compare it to the KTRI method.

Just curious...are you using software for the LCPC or a spreadsheet? What software?
 
I'm not familiar with that method. However, generally speaking, in relatively clean sands it is conventionally assumed that it will behave drained (i.e. Δu = 0) for monotonic loading. Cyclic loading may be different - you have to account for the permeability to determine the amount of drainage which happens simultaneously. Other soil types, such as silt, may lie somewhere in between a clay and a sand. It really all depends on your type of loading and the amount of drainage which is permitted.
 
I use CPet-IT2 by Robertson. It's affordable and pretty easy to use.
