How are y'all handling expanded metal mesh in your weldments? Here's my best shot:
I don't need to really show the mesh detail... we don't make the mesh - just buy it. So I want it to show in the model & drawing. This way - I only have to use a hatch pattern in the drawing view. But I can't get the mass of my weldment accurate - unless I weigh a finished headboard & use ASSIGNED MASS PROPERTIES.

In your case, I would probably create a part and use linear pattern the wire, then trim the sides to size. Then make the material to your requirements.

I have used a texture on the part, and set the part to transparent. That gives the effect of being able to see through the mesh.

Sure - CBL - that' get it to "look" right in the model... But textures don't show on line drawings & the mass would still be innaccurate.

Hey I'm not a mind reader [smile] ... you didn't mention line drawings & the link shows a shaded image.

Create an "Expanded Mesh" material and apply a suitable density. The mass would then be accurate.

Can you have multiple materials in a single weldment? I could make an assembly with the weldment & a mesh part. But then... Can I have a weldment cut-list & a BOM on the same drawing? Last time I tried - I don't think I could. I'm a picky lil s#!t.

Who's been there & done that?

"Can you have multiple materials in a single weldment?"
I don't think so, but you could probably create a workaround using the profile properties ... maybe.

"Can I have a weldment cut-list & a BOM on the same drawing?"
Sort of ... You could have a weldment view (with a cut-list) & weldment-with-mesh-assy view (with a BOM) on the same sheet.

Similar to changing the density, you could reduce the thickness to the point where the weight per square foot of the solid sheet is the same as the weight per square foot of the mesh. Unless, of course, you're dimensioning the thickness. :)

similar... I'm goofing with the size/shape of the "void" in the mesh.
I know about how much the raw material weighs.
I'm +/- 50 lb... I think.

That's close enough for the girls I date...[gorgeous]
