Expiration of welder Qualification.

i was asked this question
IF A Welder qualified with a any process on jan 10 2017 & last weld on march 25 2017, would he still be qualified on october 17 2017.
my answer was no
please your opinion.

The welder must be having a welder card and it expires after six months. He renews it and continues welding.

Alternative wording, same explanation.

A welder become qualified on date 0. He MUST weld again, using that same process (TIG, SMAW, GMAW or whatever) using that same machine and style (manual TIG, automatic GMAW, submerged metal arc) within 6 months. AND be recorded using that same process on a permanent record qual's card. If he cannot prove he has used that process within six months of the original qual date, and each six months thereafter, he must re-qualify.

SO, if she has records of welding for 7 months using manual TIG, but has not any record of SMAW, she MUST re-qualify SMAW. Her manual TIG qual's are valid. If she has no record of using her automatic machine TIG for 5 months, she MUST use her automatic TIG machine on a test piece or real product in the next 4 weeks. Go five more weeks, she must re-qualify on the automatic TIG machine.

The welder must weld within a 6 month period to maintain performance qualification for a particular process. If they do, there qualification continues for another 6 months from the last date of welding. This is why it is called welder performance continuity.
